Designing Financial Freedom for the Next Generation
Teaching Kids to Save, Spend, and Earn Responsibly
CONTEXT
Teaching Kids to Save, Spend, and Earn Responsibly
Many young people don’t learn financial responsibility early, which leads to confusion and poor habits later in life.
Parents want to raise financially aware kids but struggle to find tools that help them do so effectively.
My goal: Build an app that empowers kids to manage their money, while giving parents the tools to guide them.

PROBLEM
The Gap in Financial Education for Kids
Kids didn’t have the tools or guidance to make informed money decisions.
Parents lacked a simple way to teach kids about saving and spending responsibly.
The opportunity: Build a product that supports kids’ financial learning while being fun and easy for families to use.
SOLUTION
A Financial App Designed for Engagement and Growth
Created a playful yet educational app that allowed kids to track their savings, set goals, and learn by doing.
Developed tools for parents to monitor and guide their children’s financial decisions, ensuring the learning process was structured.
Incorporated feedback loops to make the app adaptable and responsive to children’s growing needs.

IMPACT
Creating Financially Empowered Kids
79% of parents felt the app was a valuable tool for teaching financial responsibility.
88% of kids reported feeling more capable of managing their money thanks to the app’s features.

CHALLENGES
Balancing Security,
Simplicity, and Engagement
Designing with empathy, listening closely to both kids and parents to refine the experience based on their feedback.
Making financial learning engaging without compromising the educational value.
Ensuring security and oversight for parents while giving kids freedom to explore.

MY ROLE
Bringing Strategy, Design, and Empathy Together
Led the design vision & execution for Youth App Phase 2, ensuring the app’s features met the needs of both kids and parents.
Collaborated closely with stakeholders, including parents, to ensure the app felt both safe, enjoyable, and intuitive for kids.
Focused on a balanced approach, blending financial education with engaging activities that kept kids invested.
